Whether you have recently experienced a loss, are navigating a new diagnosis, or are trying to figure out how to create a life worth living, individual therapy can be helpful.
In my practice, I work with clients to create goals that are meaningful to them. There's no one--size-fits-all treatment. Many clients I work with have benefitted from learning how to be more mindful of their emotions and how to communicate more effectively with others.
I have specialized training in EMDR, which is an evidence-based practice for addressing the ways that trauma can get "caught" in our brains. Along with EMDR, I use Cognitive Processing Therapy, another evidence-based practice designed to address the effects of trauma.
Just as you have physical health, you also have mental health. That mental health is worth working on and attending to. To become a client, please visit my online calendar.
Romantic relationships require commitment and work. Sometimes, the people in the relationship can solve the problem themselves, sort of like doing routine maintenance on your car or home. Sometimes, however, problems accumulate and require the assistance of a professional.
In couples therapy, a trained clinician meets with the couple* to assist them in determining what the problem is, how they can collaborate to work on it together, and how to improve communication skills to ensure that if a similar problem occurs in the future, the couple is prepared to handle it.
Research conducted by the American Association of Marriage and Family concluded that over 97% of surveyed couples got the help they needed from couples therapy. In addition, 93% of couples said therapy gave them more effective tools for dealing with conflict.
* For our practice, ‘couple’ includes anyone who is in a romantic relationship, including dating, cohabitating, never married, polyamorous, LGBTQ, and married. Diversity and relationships are a core value of Ad Astra Collaborative Therapy.
Family therapy is a therapeutic approach that is unique because therapists must deal with each member’s individual personality while considering each individual’s role in the family simultaneously. Most families seek out therapy because they are noticing high levels of stress within the household that don’t seem to dissipate on their own. Often, these conflicts are the result of a familial trauma that has occurred such as:
